Description
Made for the cover art of the last bookof the series "Legend of the Vampire" by Wisdombook Ltd.I know this is an unusual coclour scheme for Vampire theme. The publisher wants the overall picture to have an very bright and pastel feel. They sent me this: http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h86/hpudding/lotv/0010346031.jpg as an example, with some suggestion of the theme like "how about the character is sitting in a mansion, and appreciating a glass of red wine". I had no idea how the image example could fit into that setting, so this is the best alternative I could come up with
I didn't really design the costume. I had instruction from the publisher and was given some references.
I made a walk-through and you can see some wip and most of the reference I used in this piece.

The face has some slight lighting issues as it appears
to be evenly lit, where the rest is not (hands for example)
Great composition,
The bat is my favourite part

If I'm being really nit-picky, I'll just say maybe darken the blood in his glass a bit. However, this is FANTASTIC!

mysticcat:
Thanks! I change my mind about his face when I started rendering him. Somehow all of a sudden I wanted to try one of those narrow-nose feminine looking stylisation, so I look into one of my favorite illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi's (http://www.kobayashi-tomomi.com/ ) character to grasp that feel. I think it turns out ok for this piece. However I found it very hard to combine this stylisation with more realistic rendering. That's why it appears to be flat as many have mentioned here. If I have more time I shall experiment more to make it work. For this piece the dealine is now due, so I'll have to leave it here....
Wallace and blackshad,
Thanks for the constructive crtique
I added some shadow to his face in this update. However I couldn't go to far because his face is anatomically not very correct, and once I start to try shading it realistically, it just look very strang. I think the only fix is to redraw/paint the whole thing....
Kelandra,
That's a good point. Someone also mentioned the redness of the wine as well when I post it on DA. I thought it make sense as right now it look more like rose than red wine/blood. So I tried to darken the liquid. But by comparing the two results, I still prefer the pink one eventhough it make less sense, just because the light-going-through effect looks nicer XD
