Description

This is one of the characters from the same story of Rosaline. I found a sketch of her during the weekend and thought it would be nice to paint it out after work.

Feya is from one of the major tribes that lives and hunt on the windy grassy plain. A chief's daughter, she is also the future summoner of the element Air.

I know painting (or drawing rather) in this kind of anime way wont help me improve... oh well :(

Done entirely in Photoshop from scratch.

I just love this one!!! Very nice highlights on her face..+ the display of the wind effect...beautiful character...my only suggestion would be to work a bit more on the hair texture over at the right (the shaded area)..

Wonderful work! +7 from me

Thanks all for the supports :)

Why I thought I wont improve is because for the past years, I used to like, and were only good at drawing nothing else but a nice girl's face in anime style. Nowadays I try to adapt to a more realistic type of look and rendering, and force myself to consider more about the anatomy of body and the spacil relationship between foreground and background. Pictures like this piece become relatively easy for me to compose and execute. For references, all I need is the mirror on the side of my desk. Just put my head underthe the desired lighting and angle to check the relative relationship. ( Well I don't look like her at all, sadly :( ).

I'm really curious about what it reminds you of ;) I thought I might incorporate some ideas of anime or illustrations that I've seem in the past, and not awaring of it. I was thinking about this so hard during the day, and I thought her look resemble one of the princess in the Disney's animation, Atlantis The Lost Empire.

But suddenly, while I was going to bed, an image of similar look and feel emerged vividly in my mind. I think it's an illustration of a pricetess character in Japanese fantasy fiction, The Record of Arslan's War, done by Yoshitaka Amano. I don't have the artbook with me, but I think it's a similar design in headdress and hair and expression. It's was a beatiful picture and the image might somehow imprint in my mind, without my knowing about it...

Thanks for the reminder about the grass. Will get rid of it soon!

Depends on the case. Right now my aim is to achieve the dedicate look that I've seen in some Korean cg artist's works. A kind of fusion of anime and painting, with an approach in anatomy and rendering more realistic than the traditinal Japanese anime style.

My painting background comes from a foundation still-life painting class. I've oil-painted only friuts and kitchenwares. Just have to practice more on various subjects.

This is a beautiful piece, don't believe what bheeshoom said; some one-word comment without constructive criticism means nothing.
Anime style art is perfectly valid too. I like the realistic approach you took, love the feathers and the wind. :)

I like the fact that you have created a mythology and have used many methods to visualise it. Are you writing a book?

another thing I noticed is that her eye is very big, though her both eyes are bigger than usually but this one closer to camera (yeah, camera?) is too big IMO. Max points anyway. (like I could or would take them away)

How big is the original image?

Indeed I also work on fantasy-fiction writing - in Chinese though, which is my first language. I like creating stories, and express some thoughts with them. Words, pictures, even music (via midi-composing), are all medium for me to tell these stroies.

However it's difficult to find time to maintain exercising in both visual and literature art. I was writing several stories of epic scale during my college years. None of them are finished yet, but some of them have good promises and may get to be published in the end. Then 2 monthes ago I graduated, got a short story published in one of the literature magazine back in my country, got into a company as an illustrative artist, and found I have found no time to read or write so far.

24 hours a day is just not enough :)

I agree there's a problem with the perspective treatment of the eyes. The eye closer to the camera (hmmm) is too big, or the eye on the far side is too small.

And here eyes are indeed very big compare to the usual human being... it's the horrible anime taste of mine ;)

The original image is about 1600px wide

I don't find it relates to anime really... unless you mean her bigger eyes. I enjoy drawing bigger eyes as well. They can be the most important part of an image. I don't care for images that are photo-realistic. If you're going to paint something, do something creative with it. If you want it to be realistic, take a photo. =P

She's lovely and I want her head piece. ^^

Beautiful use of colour, impressive and expressive.

I don't think it's problem that you choose to adopt an Anime style, if that's what you like, what's wrong with being an excellent Anime style artist?

Simple but lovely +6
